Layer 1
The student's name moves across the video.
A watermark with the student's name and phone number drifts across the lesson the whole time it plays. It can't be cropped out of a corner, and if the screen is recorded, the name is in the recording.

Layer 2
And their ID is in the audio too.
Every few minutes the lesson pauses for a moment, the app reads out the student's MedBank ID digit by digit, and the lesson carries on by itself. Whoever records the sound alone and passes it around as a "record" takes the ID with it.

Layer 3
One account, one phone.
The first phone to open an account owns it. Every other phone is turned away, and the server decides, not the app. So "send me your password and I'll watch" stops working.

- No emulators: the app won't run on one
Layer 4
Screen recordings come out black.
On Android, screenshots and screen recordings are blocked. On iPhone, the lesson hides itself from screen recording and mirroring, screenshots are detected, and the app-switcher preview is blurred. Exam questions get the same treatment.
Layer 5
What isn't paid for never arrives.
Access is decided on the server. Lessons in a locked chapter are never sent to the phone, and the video's source is hidden from the student. There's no link to copy and no file to download.

✳Honestly: no protection on earth stops someone filming a screen with a second phone. That's why the visible and spoken watermarks exist: even then, the leaked copy carries the name and ID of the account it came from.
